What is Google Analytics?

June 26th, 2008 by Oblivionated Dreamer

Google Analytics (abbreviated GA) is a free service offered by Google that generates detailed statistics about the visitors to a website. Its main highlight is that the product is aimed at Marketers as opposed to webmasters and technologists which is where the industry of web analytics traditionally grew from. GA can track visitors from all referrers, including search engines, display advertising, pay-per-click networks, email marketing and even digital collateral such as links within PDF documents. Integrated with AdWords, users can optimize online campaigns by tracking landing page quality and conversions (goals). Goals might include sales, lead generation, viewing a specific page, or downloading a particular file. These can also be monetized. By using GA, marketers can determine which ads are performing, and which are not, providing the information to optimise or cull campaigns. GA’s approach is to show high level dashboard-type data for the casual user, and more in-depth data further into the report set. Through the use of GA analysis, poor performing pages can be identified using techniques such as funnel visualization, where visitors came from (referrers), how long they stayed and their geographical position. It also provides more advanced features, including custom visitor segmentation. Users can officially add up to 50 site profiles. Each profile generally corresponds to one website.

Marié Christina Digby (born April 16, 1983) is an American singer-songwriter, guitarist and pianist. She is best known for her acoustic cover version of Rihanna’s No. 1 hit “Umbrella”, which attracted attention on YouTube in 2007. The song was subsequently played on the radio station STAR 98.7, was featured on the third season opening episode of the MTV show The Hills, and peaked at #10 on the Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles chart. Digby performed the song on the late night talk show Last Call with Carson Daly on August 2, 2007.

Digby’s first official single, “Say It Again”, was released to radio stations on January 18, 2008. Her debut album, Unfold, was released on April 8, 2008.

Biography

Digby, whose mother is Japanese and father is Irish-American[citation needed], is the eldest of three siblings including her sisters; Naomi (born December 12, 1985) and Erina (born August 8, 1987). She began writing songs in high school in LA and after graduating, spent one year studying philosophy at the University of California, Berkeley before leaving college to concentrate on music full-time. She came into the public light in 2004 after winning the Pantene Pro-Voice Music Competition with her autobiographical song “Miss Invisible”.

After performing at numerous night clubs, Digby signed a publishing deal with Rondor Music, a subsidiary of Vivendi SA’s Universal Music Group in early 2005. By the end of 2005, Digby had signed with Disney’s Hollywood Records and her first album of original songs was completed by the end of 2006. Also in 2006, her song “Fool” was included on the Disney compilation album Girl Next. In early 2007, she began to post simple videos of herself singing cover songs of other artists on YouTube in order to gain visibility for herself. Hollywood Records then released a high-quality studio recording of her rendition of “Umbrella” to iTunes and radio stations.

A series of YouTube videos in 2007 brought Charice to the attention of Ten Songs Productions, a record company based in Sweden. On June 2007, she traveled to Stockholm, Sweden and recorded seven songs which were released digitally.

Another YouTube video performance of Jennifer Holliday’s “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going” brought Charice to the attention of South Korea’s Seoul Broadcasting System to perform on a talent show called Star King on October 2007. Her performances were well-received, and she earned standing ovations in all of them.

On November 28, Charice’ performance on Star King was featured on a The Ellen DeGeneres Show segment in which DeGeneres showed web videos of different people she wished would guest on the show. She later personally invited the young singer to perform. On December 19, Charice appeared on the show, performing “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going” and “I Will Always Love You.” She received her first standing ovation from the American audience.

Her performances of “I Have Nothing”, “I Will Always Love You”, and “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going” earned her again two standing ovations. YouTube Fever!!! Part 1 - Arnel Pineda

June 18th, 2008 by Oblivionated Dreamer

Ok so here’s the first person that i will feature that really gain popularity at YouTube, His name is Arnel Pineda and he is now the current lead vocalist of the band The Journey .

Videos of The Zoo performing cover songs by Journey, Survivor, Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin, Air Supply, The Eagles, Kenny Loggins and other popular acts from the 70s, 80s and 90s, began appearing on YouTube.com in February 2007. On June 28, 2007, Neal Schon of Journey contacted Noel Gomez, a longtime fan and friend of Pineda who uploaded many of these videos, to ask for Pineda’s contact information. Schon sent an e-mail to Pineda inviting the latter to audition for Journey. Pineda initially dismissed the e-mail as a hoax, but after being persuaded by Gomez, he finally replied to Schon’s e-mail. Ten minutes later, Pineda received a phone call from Schon. On August 12, Pineda, along with his manager Bert de Leon, flew toMarin County, just north of San Francisco, for a two-day audition. The star-struck Pineda was welcomed warmly but he described the audition as “nerve-wracking, tense”.

OnDecenber 5, 2007, Pineda was announced as the lead singer of Journey. CNN Headline News ran the story as part of their “News to Me” segment.

Pineda debuted as the lead singer of Journey on February 21, 2008 at the Viña del Mar International Song Festival held at the Quinta Vergara Amphitheater in Viña del Mar, Chile. Videos of the Vina del Mar performance are available at the Festival’s homepage and on YouTube.

The band also performed at the Estadio San Carlos de Apoquindo in Santiago on February 23rd (with Peter Frampton and Earth, Wind and Fire).

There was supposed to be a third concert at Viña del Mar Casino in Valparaiso on February 24th but this was cancelled due to electrical problems at the venue.

Chilean media acclaimed Pineda’s performance (translated to English): “The new vocalist fit very well with the band, his vocal aptitudes shining through, which are very similar to the legendary musician of the band, Steve Perry.” Journey keyboardist Jonathan Cain described Pineda’s performance in a radio interview: “We went to Chile just recently, where we had never played and they went crazy, they absolutely went nuts…Arnel’s first show - talk about a stressful thing - we had a televised concert for 25 million people…Is the guy a winner? Yeah, he’s a winner. He’s a clutch player.”

Journey returned to the US for a private Remax Convention event at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on March 6, 2008, then performed at Las Vegas’ Planet Hollywood on March 8, 2008.
